How to Use the Image Compressor
Image compression reduces file size while maintaining acceptable visual quality — essential for faster web pages, lower storage costs, and meeting platform upload limits. InkStu's image compressor runs entirely in your browser, meaning your photos never leave your device and your privacy is fully protected. This tool supports JPG, PNG, and WebP formats and uses a smart compression algorithm that significantly reduces file size with minimal quality loss. You can compress by target file size (e.g., under 100KB for web use) or by quality level (0-100), giving you flexible control for different use cases. Whether you're a web designer optimizing assets, an e-commerce seller compressing product images, a content creator preparing blog illustrations, or a casual user shrinking photos for email attachments and social media, this tool handles it quickly. No registration, no software install — just open the page and start compressing on your phone or desktop. For compressing multiple images at once, use the Batch Processing tool to compress dozens of images and download them together. Downloaded images are watermark-free.
Image Compression FAQ
What compression ratio can I expect?
Typically a 50%-80% reduction in file size, depending on the original image content and quality setting. JPG compresses best; PNG (lossless) reduces less. Try quality 80 first, then adjust based on results.
Will compression reduce image quality?
JPG and WebP use lossy compression with minor quality loss; PNG is lossless. A quality setting of 75-85 offers a good balance between file size and visual quality — the difference is barely visible to the naked eye.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
This tool processes one image at a time. For batch compression of dozens or hundreds of images, use our Batch Processing tool, which can compress a whole batch and download them as a package.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The tool runs entirely in the browser, supporting iPhone, Android, and desktop browsers — no app install required. Just open the page on your phone to compress images. Processing speed depends on device performance.
What is the maximum file size?
Since processing happens locally in the browser, we recommend keeping single images under 20MB due to device memory limits. Very large files (e.g., 50MB+ high-res photos) may be slow or fail on low-end devices — consider resizing first.
Are images uploaded to a server?
No. All compression happens in your browser locally. Your image data never leaves your device or reaches any server, ensuring complete privacy. It even works offline once the page is loaded.
Which image formats are supported?
JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP are supported for compression. Animated GIFs are not supported (compression would lose the animation). For BMP, TIFF, or other formats, convert to JPG or PNG first using the Convert tool.
